San Giovanni's historical streets are the present via Garibaldi, via Mazzini, via della Madonna, via G. da San Giovanni, via Alberti and via S.Lorenzo. All of these streets are in the pedestrian zone. In order to reach them by car a previous written permission by the Municipal Police is required. They are all part of the ancient town layout, consisting in streets intersecting each other at 90°, thus forming a regular orthogonal net with two main streets called "cardo" and "decumano". Residential lots are accordingly ranged in a regular way along the street, decreasing in broadness as the main axis gets farther. Lots form blocks that can be regarded as real works of art, designed by artists of the time. | ![]() ![]() |
